According to TVLine, S.W.A.T. and Teen Wolf star Lou Ferrigno Jr. has been tapped to portray Golden Age Hourman on DC Universe’s upcoming live-action series, Stargirl. Ferrigno Jr. joins the series in a recurring role alongside Brec Bassinger (School of Rock), Joel McHale (Community), Anjelika Washington (Shameless), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Yvette Monreal (The Fosters), and Christopher James Baker (True Detective).

Created by Ken Fitch and Bernard Baily, Hourman, a/k/a Rex Tyler is a skilled chemist and adrenaline thrill seeker who possess super-strength for one hour a day as Hourman. As a founding member of the Justice Society of America, the character works hard to balance his heroic escapades while also being a father.

Stargirl show creator Geoff Johns will write and produce the series through his Mad Ghost Productions banner alongside Greg Berlanti and Berlanti Productions. 

The series follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (Bassinger) whose life is turned upside down when her mother remarries moves her from California to Nebraska. The teen struggles to adapt to her new school, new classmates and fitting in with her her stepfamily. After discovering that her stepfather used to be a superhero, Courtney “borrows” the hero’s cosmic staff and becomes the inspiration for an unlikely group of superheroes.

Additional credits for Ferrigno Jr. include episodes of 9-1-1, NCIS: Los Angeles, Bones, Rush: Inspired by Battlefield, and How I Met Your Mother.
