The 76th annual Golden Globe Awards were presented on January 6, 2019, highlighting the best films and television programs of the last year.

On the television end of things, winners included Sandra Oh (Best Actress in a TV Series – Drama), Richard Madden (Best Actor in a TV Series – Drama), Rachel Monahan (Best Actress in a TV Series – Musical or Comedy), and Michael Douglas (Best Actor in a TV Series – Musical or Comedy). The Americans picked up Best Television Series – Drama, while The Kominsky Method picked up Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

Film-wise, Green Book took home Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, while Bohemian Rhapsody won Best Motion Picture – Drama. Acting awards went to Rami Malek (Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama), Glenn Close (Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama), Olivia Colman (Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy), and Christian Bale (Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama).

Though several superhero films received nominations, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was the one to bring home an award, picking up the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Animated. The film, which focuses on Miles Morales’ transformation into Spider-Man as he deals with a universe-blending incident that also brings various other Spideys together, has (as of this article’s publication) grossed $275.4 million worldwide. A sequel and a spinoff are both already in development.
