The King of the Seven Seas is now reigning over the global box office as the highest grossing feature in the DCEU! As of the first weekend in 2019, Aquaman grossed $887 million worldwide, edging out the former DCEU leader Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s cumulative $873.6 million.
Following it’s December 2018 release, the Warner Bros. film picked up $238 million domestically as of January 5, 2019. After opening oversees, 75% of Aquaman’s revenue came from the $650 million picked up at foreign markets. In China, Aquaman is second only to Avengers: Infinity War in terms of highest grossing superhero films at $279 million.
Within the DCEU, the Jason Momoa-led feature surpassed the global box office totals for Justice League ($657 million), Man of Steel ($668 million), Suicide Squad ($746 million), and Wonder Woman ($821 million). Some analysts estimate the film could earn $1 billion before it finishes its run at the box office.
Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, Dolph Lundgren, and Nicole Kidman. The film is currently playing in theaters.
