Orion Pictures has released the first major teaser trailer for 2019’s Child’s Play remake and it looks to be a scary, bloody mess with everyone’s favorite killer doll.
The trailer opens as an ad for the company producing the doll, now a Buddi doll rather than Good Guy. It cuts to young Andy Barclay and his desire for said Buddi. What follows are several shots that promise the carnage and mayhem that are Chucky’s specialty. The teaser doesn’t feature Chucky very much, just an outline here, a silhouette there, but we do see his handywork in some scary scenarios.
Though the movie has a similar premise to the original film, in this iteration, Chucky is a defective robotic AI-based toy rather than a doll possessed by the spirit of serial killer Charles Lee Ray. Other notable changes include the absence of series creator Don Mancini, who wrote all seven previous Child’s Play films, and Brad Dourif, the only actor to voice Chucky.
Gabriel Bateman (Lights Out) will star as Andy with Aubrey Plaza turning from her trademark comedy to horror as Karen Barclay, Andy’s mom. So far, who will be voicing Chucky is being kept quiet.
The movie is directed by Lars Klevberg (Polaroid). It’ll be in theaters on June 21, 2019.
