Following Jon Cryer’s highly anticipated debut as Lex Luther on Sunday’s episode of Supergirl, the iconic Superman villain wasted no time enacting his elaborate evil plan. While Luthor is firmly poised to be the fourth season’s main adversary, the promo for next week’s episode shows he won’t be acting alone. 

In the teaser, Luthor recruits Kara Danvers’ Russian doppelgänger, known as Red Daughter. Although this doppelgänger initially appeared in the tail end of season three, and has been frequently teased, she has yet to step into a major storyline role. Now, the character is ready to be the weapon she was always meant to be, promising Luthor, “I will follow you, and destroy her.”

The promo also offers a quick glimpse of Red Daughter’s battle suit, which seems to draw inspiration from the costume worn by Superman in Superman: Red Son by Mark Millar, Dave Johnson, and Kilian Plunkett.

“For fans of the comics, I think they might recognize that the story we want to tell is inspired by the iconic DC Comics’ Red Son, which told an alternate origin story for Superman,” Supergirl producer Robert Rovner previously shared.
