Quantcast

Miranda Richardson, best remembered for her turn as Rita Skeeter in the Harry Potter franchise, is the latest actor tapped for HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel pilot. While details on Richardson’s character remain scarce, she has been cast in a “major, series regular role.”

Richardson will star alongside Naomi Watts (King Kong) whose role is described as “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.” Additional cast includes Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Denise Gough (Angels In America), Jamie Campbell Bower (The Twilight Saga), Sheila Atim (Harlots), Ivanno Jeremiah (Humans), and others.

Production on the prequel is set to being sometime this summer, and if it is greenlit would theoretically air in 2020 or 2021. X-Men: First Class’ Jane Goldman is serving as showrunner on the prequel based on a concept developed with series author George R.R. Martin.

“Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know,” reads the prequel’s officially description.

“Westeros is a very different place. There’s no King’s Landing. There’s no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens — Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built. We’re dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series,” Martin previously shared.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO for its final six episodes starting Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 9 PM ET.
