Famed paranormal investigator and author Lorraine Warren died this week at the age of 92. The news came from a family friend who made the announcement on Facebook.

Lorraine and her husband Ed were two of the most famous paranormal investigators in the world. They were important figures involved in many high profile paranormal cases, including the Annabelle doll, Perron family, Amityville hauntings, Enfield Poltergeist, Arne Johnson possession, Snedeker house, and the Smurl family.

She was known to be clairvoyant and a light trance medium while Ed was a self-taught demonologist. Together, they investigated thousands of cases during their career. In 1952 they founded the New England Society for Psychic Research, which sought the skills of medical doctors, nurses police officers, and researchers. The pair also ran the Occult Museum, housing artifacts from cases they investigated, where the public could view the haunted objects.

Their experiences with the paranormal has inspired many films, TV series, and documentaries. The Amityville event has seen many iterations, such as 1979’s The Amityville Horror, which starred James Brolin and Margot Kidder. The Warrens’ investigations have more recently been immortalized in director James Wan’s The Conjuring, and franchise spinoffs, featuring Vera Farmiga as Lorraine.

In a Tweet, Farmiga called Warren a “dear friend” stating that “I was so blessed to have known her and am honored to portray her.”

She was preceded in death by Ed, who passed away in 2006.
