James Wan and longtime collaborator Gary Dauberman, known for their work on Warner Bros.’ Conjuring franchise, are reuniting to adapt Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot for New Line. Dauberman is penning the script and will serve as executive producer, while Wan will produce with Roy Lee and Mark Wolper.

First published in 1975, Salem’s Lot follows an author’s return to his hometown in Maine, only to discover it is overrun with vampires. The bestselling novel was previously adapted into two separate television miniseries in 1979 and 2004, both of which received Emmy nominations.

This will be Dauberman’s second King novel adaptation, having penned both installments of It. Dauberman also wrote Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation, and the Conjuring spinoff, The Nun. Wan has directed and produced such hit horror franchises as Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring, along with the billion dollar superhero hit Aquaman.

Wan and Dauberman recently paired on Annabelle Comes Home, marking Dauberman’s feature directorial debut, and The Curse of La Llorona which brought in $26.7 million on its opening weekend. The pair are also teaming for DC Universe’s Swamp Thing, slated to premiere this May.

No director has been announced to helm the Salem’s Lot project at this time.
