The planned Black Adam movie starring Dwayne Johnson was announced a few years ago, but has since languished in the development stage. Following the success of Shazam!, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. are moving forward with the project, starting with choosing the director.

Johnson was initially going to appear as Black Adam in Shazam!, but plans changed to instead give Black Adam his own standalone movie.

Jaume Collet-Serra, who is directing Johnson in the Disneyland theme park ride-based Jungle Cruise, has been tapped to direct the movie. Collet-Serra has also directed Non-Stop, Run All Night, and The Shallows, in addition to other films and multiple production credits.

According to Variety, Black Adam is now a priority for New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Adam Sztykiel, who wrote Rampage – another film starring Johnson, has written the latest draft of the movie. Additional details on the plot and release date are still under wraps.
