The new Midnight Society has found its members. Nickelodeon has announced the cast for the revival of their popular anthology show, Are You Afraid of the Dark?.
Sam Ashe Arnold (Best. Worst. Weekend. Ever), Miya Cech (Rim of the World), Tamara Smart (The Worst Witch), Jeremy Ray Taylor (2017’s It), and Lyliana Wray (Top Gun: Maverick) will star in the miniseries, which is set to air in October. Rafael Casal (Blindspotting) will also appear in the show as the series new baddie, Mr. Tophat.
Written by BenDavid Grabinski (Skiptrace) and directed by Dean Isrealite (Power Rangers movie), the revival will contain three hourlong episodes. It’ll introduce the new generation’s Midnight Society who tell the tale about the Carnival of Doom and watch in horror as events from the story start happening in their real lives.
Campfire stories were taken to a new level in the original Nickelodeon TV series. Airing from 1990 to 2000, the show featured a group of teens who gather in the woods to tell scary stories. Each episode was a new tale with classic stories of ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and spooky magic, but also modern interpretations of aliens and technological villains in computer games. Though there were a few hokey episodes, many were memorably frightening, inciting plenty of evenings with the nightlight left on.
When the Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival was announced in February, Nickelodeon stated that the miniseries would coincide with the planned feature length movie. The film was initially planned for October 2019, but is now expected to premiere later, due to behind the scenes changes.
