Buffy and Angel are set to work as a team for the first time since their comics relocated to BOOM! Studios. The publisher announced that Buffy the Vampire Slayer and spinoff series Angel will join together for an event, appropriately titled “Hellmouth.”

Set for release in September, the crossover will begin in Angel #5 by Bryan Edward Hill and Gleb Melnikov. The vampire with a soul will realize that his purpose is keep the Hellmouth sealed, no matter the cost. This event will see the first meeting between Buffy and Angel in their new home at BOOM!.

“Everything in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel has been leading to ‘Hellmouth,’ the first major comic book event featuring Buffy and Angel. But Angel #5 is where the pieces all start coming together,” BOOM! Studios Executive Editor Jeanine Schaefer said in a statement. “We’re excited for fans to see just how far we’ll go in this reimagining of two huge pop culture icons – because when Buffy and Angel finally meet, it’s not going to go the way you expect!”

BOOM! teased that the two comics are moving closer to the connection by releasing interconnected covers for September. They’ve also hinted at a possibly third series to be called Hellmouth.
