After two seasons, Syfy has canceled Krypton, the Superman prequel drama that told the story of Superman’s grandfather. Viewership numbers are likely the cancellation’s cause, with season two drawing an average of only 408,000 viewers per episode compared to season one’s average of 1.8 million.

Set two generations before the destruction of Krypton, the series followed Superman’s grandfather as he fights to redeem honor to the House of El and save his beloved world from chaos. Executive produced by David S. Goyer and Cameron Welsh, Krypton starred Cameron Cuffe, Georgina Campbell, Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Aaron Pierre, Ian McElhinney, and Shaun Sipos.

Along with the cancellation of Krypton, Syfy has also passed over the DC Entertainment-produced spinoff Lobo. The indestructible deep space bounty hunter Lobo was introduced and recurred during Krypton’s second season. Krypton showrunner Cameron Welsh was overseeing the spinoff. According to reports, Warner Horizon will shop the Lobo pilot elsewhere.

The first season of Krypton is currently streaming on DC Universe, with the sophomore season expected to join the platform in 2020.
