Actor Robert Axelrod, known for his voice work in English dubs of anime as well as on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, passed away on September 7, 2019, at the age of 70.

Axelrod was born and raised in New York City, and began working as an actor in commercials and in various off-Broadway productions before transitioning into voiceover work. He also spent time working as a fulltime musician as a guitarist throughout the 1970s.

His work as a voice actor included shows such as Codename: Robotech and Transformers: Robots in Disguise, Rurouni Kenshin, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, among others. He is probably best-known for having provided the voices of Wizardmon and Armadillomon in the first two seasons of Digimon, and for having voiced the villainous Lord Zedd in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Axelrod’s agent confirmed his passing via social media, saying that “Robert enjoyed meeting his fans an inspiring them to follow their passions. His beautiful and kindred soul will never be forgotten and we take comfort in knowing his memory will live on in all those he inspired, met and knew.”

Axelrod’s family has set up a GoFundMe page in order to help cover his final expenses and a memorial service.
