On the weekend before Valentine’s Day The LEGO Batman Movie topped the weekend’s domestic box office. The animated Warner Bros. comedy brought in $55.6 million.
It beat 50 Shades Darker in the U.S. which ended the weekend at $46.8 million, though the drama took the global top spot. John Wick: Chapter 2 reached $30 million in its opening weekend, taking the number three slot.
In addition to leading the weekend, The LEGO Batman Movie is the highest opening so far in 2017. It netted $92.6 million worldwide.
The movie came in slightly under the prediction of $60 million it also came in under the first The LEGO Movie which hit $76 million. But, word of mouth praise for the movie will likely result in more viewers and a strong theatrical run.
The LEGO Batman Movie features an all-star voice cast of Will Arnett (Batman), Michael Cera (Robin), Rosario Dawson (Batgirl), Ralph Fiennes (Alfred), Zach Galifianakis (Joker), Jenny Slate (Harley Quinn), Conan O’Brien (The Riddler), Billy Dee Williams (Two-Face), Zoë Kravitz (Catwoman), Mariah Carey (Mayor McCaskill), and several others.
