Publisher Somos Arte is teaming with DC Comics for Ricanstruction: Reminiscing & Rebuilding Puerto Rico, an anthology that’ll benefit reconstruction work in Puerto Rico that continues after the devastating hurricane of 2017.

The book will be filled with stories that see DC characters like Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, the Flash, and Aquaman teaming up with La Borinqueña, the Puerto Rican superheroine by Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez. Their adventures will share the history and culture of Puerto Rico.

La Borinqueña is a patriotic symbol, powered by the history and mysticism of Puerto Rico. She started out as Columbia college student Marisol Rios De La Luz who traveled to the island to study at the University of Puerto Rico. While exploring caves she found crystals that once united call Atabex, the Taino mother goddess, and her sons. They give Marisol superhuman strength, the ability to fly, and power to control storms.

Miranda-Rodriguez is producing and writing stories for the anthology. He’s joined by comics writers Gail Simone, Greg Pak, Reginald Hudlin, Denys Cowan, Tony Daniel, Ken Lashley, Bill Sienkiewicz, Yanick Paquette, Gabby Rivera, Will Rosado, Jorge Jimenez, Mike Allred, and Chris Sotomayer. Also contributing to the book are actors Rosario Dawson, Rubén Blades, Javier Muñoz, and Sonia Manzano, and novelist Esmerelda Santiago.

Ricanstruction will be available on May 23, 2018. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to hurricane relief in Puerto Rico to provide solar-powered lamps, food, clothing, and other necessities to help the three million residents.
