Nintendo closed out the 2018 E3 press event schedule with what has become a tradition for the company, a prerecorded conference.

The next entry in the long-running party game franchise will be arriving for the Nintendo Switch later this year with Super Mario Party. The game allows for interesting and new configurations to be used to play minigames with the Switch by arranging multiple systems in specific ways, though a more traditional Mario Party configuration is also available. The game will arrive on October 5, 2018.

A new entry in the popular Fire Emblem franchise is also being worked on, and the game is called Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The series has experienced massive popularity ever since the debut of Fire Emblem Awakening, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that it’s still a priority for Nintendo to make new games for. The trailer showed off both high quality anime-style cutscenes as well as the traditional grid-based, turn-based tactical combat. This will be the Switch debut for the Fire Emblem series when it arrives in Spring 2019.

Fortnite has been popular on basically every system it’s been ported to, and now the wacky online battle royale game is available for the Switch – right now, actually, as it released for free immediately after the presentation ended.

Also out on Switch immediately after the trailer ended was Hollow Knight, a throwback action platformer game that first released in early 2017 after being funded via Kickstarter. The game proved to be popular thanks to its graphical style and gameplay style, and looks to fit right at home on the Switch.

A number of other titles also saw some quick hits during Nintendo’s show. Popular competitive arcade game Killer Queen will be making its way to the Switch by the end of 2018 in the form of Killer Queen Black, and anime fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ is also headed to the system. Octopath Traveler, which is out this July, is getting a new free demo (different from the one already available) that’s available to download right now. Overcooked 2, SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy, Starlink: Battle for Atlas, Arena of Valor, Minecraft, Pixark, Just Dance 2019, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Crash Bandicoot N’Sane Trilogy, Ninjala, Carcassone, Fifa 19, Ark Survival Evolved, Paladins, Fallout Shelter, and Dark Souls Remastered were among the games that saw quick hits during a lengthy, third-party-focused sizzle reel mid-show.

The previously-announced Pokémon: Let’s Go! games also saw some new footage shown off during the presentation, and it was announced that the Pokeball Plus accessory will unlock Mew in the game. More time was dedicated to these games after the presentation proper, and instead it was discussed during the Nintendo Treehouse Live show. Both games will be arriving on November 16, 2018.

The lion’s share of the show was dedicated to the Super Smash Bros. game in development for the Switch, and it now has a title: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The game will feature an all-encompassing roster that includes every single character that has ever appeared in any of the prior Smash Bros. games. This means that characters that only appeared in one of the earlier games, such as Pichu, Ice Climbers, or Wolf, will all be brought back after not appearing in the more recent entries. This also includes third-party characters like Solid Snake, Megaman, Ryu, Cloud, and others.

Two new characters were also introduced: Princess Daisy, from the Super Mario franchise, and Ridley, from Metroid. The latter has been a character often requested by fans, and Ridley previously appeared as a boss character in the single-player mode from the Wii era, but this is the first time that the space pirate is playable. Daisy is being called an “echo fighter” to Princess Peach, which apparently means that her moveset is extremely close to Peach’s but with just enough changes to make her play differently.

As far as new characters are concerned, “We made including every single fighter ever our number one goal,” Smash creator Masahiro Sakurai said in the conference. “So we’re kind of hoping you aren’t expecting too many new challengers.”

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate arrives exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on December 7, 2018.
