Synopsis: Aliens abduct the son of one of Superman’s boyhood friends – and the Legion won’t let Superman save the boy!

Review: Paul Levitz’s story has all the makings of a Legion classic – a moral dilemma, a threat to the time stream, tensions between Superman and his boyhood friends. But his script just scratches the surface and fails to take full advantage of the story’s dramatic potential. The best part might be the change in the status of Pete Ross, a Smallville buddy who secretly knew Superboy’s real identity. On the art side, the pencils by longtime Justice League of America artist Dick Dillin are solid, and pair nicely with the inks of Dick Giordano. Overall, a serviceable but unspectacular done-in-one issue.

Grade: B

Cool factor: Anytime Superman teams up with his old teammates in The Legion, good things – and, potentially, good stories – tend to happen.

Character quotable: “I’m not speaking of life and death – but of destiny!” – Saturn Girl (it’s pretty easy to be sure of yourself when you can read minds and you’re from the future!)
