The People’s Choice Awards were held on Sunday, November 11, 2018, honoring popular movies, TV shows, music, podcasts, and more. Among the winners was Wynonna Earp, which won sci-fi/fantasy show of 2018, beating Supernatural, The Originals, The Expanse, and Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments.

Based on the comic created by Beau Smith, the show was developed by Emily Andras, and stars Melanie Scrofano, Tim Rozon, Dominque Provost-Chalkley, and Katherine Barrell. A blend of horror, Western, fantasy, comedy, and action, it sees Wyatt Earp’s great great-granddaughter protecting the town of Purgatory from demons and other evil creatures.

The show’s third season, which wrapped in September with a cliffhanger ending, saw Wynonna and her team go up against a formidable foe who had been in the show’s periphery since it began in 2016. The popular Syfy Channel show has achieved a fervent fan following known as Earpers, and announced a fourth season in the summer of 2018 before the third had even begun.

“The name ‘People’s Choice Awards’ is so apt in connection to what Wynonna Earp is all about – The People – Those people being the fans, the family, ‘The Earpers.’ I wish the stage and the award were big enough to truly fit in the hands of every Earper that made this small show so big with so many people,” Smith told Scoop.

Scoop would like to congratulate the Wynonna Earp TV show on its recent People’s Choice Award.

Other big winners of 2018 included Avengers: Infinity War for movie of the year and action movie, Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) for male movie star, Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Infinity War) for female movie star, Danai Guirira (Black Panther) for action movie star, and Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) for comedy TV star.
