The 2018 Game Awards were held on Thursday, December 6, 2018, honoring excellence in all aspects of the video game industry. This year’s Game of the Year award went to God of War, which beat out Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Spider-Man, Monster Hunter World and Celeste; God of War also picked up Best Game Direction and Best Action Adventure.

Red Dead Redemption 2 also picked up a handful of awards, winning Best Narrative, Best Music/Score, Best Audio Design, and Best Performance (for Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan). Fortnite also won multiple awards, scoring Best Ongoing Game and Best Multiplayer, as did Celeste, for Games for Impact and Best Independent Game.

Other winners this year included Return of the Obra Din for Best Art Direction, Florence for Best Mobile Game, ASTRO BOT Rescue Mission for Best VR/AR game, Dead Cells for Best Action Game, Monster Hunter: World for Best Role-Playing Game, Dragon Ball FighterZ for Best Fighting Game, Overcooked 2 for Best Family Game, Into the Breach for Best Strategy Game, Forza Horizon 4 for Best Sports/Racing Game, Combat 2018 for Best Student Game, and The Messenger for Best Debut Indie Game.

On the eSports end of things, Overwatch picked up the award for Best eSports Game, Cloud9 won Best eSports Team, Bok “Reapered” Han-Gyu won Best eSports Coach, the League of Legends World Championship won Best eSports Event, AndersBlumeEefje “Sjokz” Depoortere won Best eSports Host, and the C9 Comeback Win in Triple Overtime won Best eSports Moment. Dominique “SonicFox” McClean picked up Best eSports Player, giving his acceptance speech while wearing his trademark blue furry costume.
