Heritage’s Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction on May 13-14, 2016 in New York is filled with the biggest names in the industry. Frank Frazetta’s The Norseman original 1972 book cover art, personal favorite of the late artist, is expected to bring over $350,000 in the auction.

“This image has all of the danger and drama you would expect in a Frazetta barbarian masterpiece,” said Todd Hignite, Vice President at Heritage Auctions. “It was a personal favorite of Frazetta’s. He was very pleased with the contrapposto stance of the main figure, which imbues him with power, tension and vitality. Frazetta was always in search of ways to depict the human figure in action and here he felt he had triumphed.”

One of the most significant pieces of art in the auction is Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott’s unused 1966 Fantastic Four #52 original cover art, featuring the first appearance of Black Panther. Marvel went in a different direction, but this piece carries weight since it features the character who will appear in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War.

The auction has a classic piece of original comic art in Gil Kane and Dave Cockrum’s cover to 1975’s X-Men #95. It is only the third regular comic cover featuring the new X-Men and the only one with Thunderbird, who would meet his demise in the issue. Another great piece of original Marvel cover art is John Romita, Sr.’s 1973 Defenders #10 cover Thor vs Hulk original art and cover proof.

A masterpiece of Charles Schulz’s original Peanuts Sunday comic strip art from August 8, 1953 will be sold as will a rare original Bill Watterson Calvin and Hobbes daily comic strip from November 14, 1987.

Comics include the Harvey Richie Rich #1 File Copy CGC 9.6, Superman #1 CGC PR 0.5, and Pep Comics #34 San Francisco Pedigree CGC 9.2.

Other highlights are Lou Fine Hit Comics #6 Red Bee original cover art, Gray Morrow Marvel Preview #4 original art cover of Star-Lord, Gene Colan and Paul Reinman Marvel Super-Heroes #13 original art page 12 with the first Carol Danvers appearance, and Toy World Funnies #nn Wanamaker’s Giveaway CGC 3.0.
