As part of their Americana & Political Auction on September 17, 2016, Heritage is presenting Lincoln & His Times 20th Anniversary of the Rail Splitter.
Lincoln memorabilia includes a highly important Abraham Lincoln letter to his first fiancée, Mary Owens; an outstanding signed Carte-de-Visite; and massive US mint medal of “Pure California Gold” struck for presentation to Henry Clay, Lincoln’s own “ideal of a great man,” in recognition of his half century of public service.
A Lincoln & Johnson Club broadside; Stephen A. Douglas portrait flag; and an important section of blood-stained towel from Peterson House, used to bind the president’s wound on the night of the assassination are all offered.
Other Lincoln highlights are John Wilkes Booth lock of the assassin’s hair, cut from the top of his head on April 27, 1865, the day of his post-mortem examination aboard the monitor Montauk – with impeccable provenance; the Belle Boyd First National Confederate States of America flag presented by the “Siren of the Shenandoah” on June 10, 1862, at Front Royal, never before sold in the US; and Robert E. Lee fine war-date letter together with its franked envelope.
The auction will be held in two sessions. The Grand Format Floor Session will be held at 10 AM CT and the Grand Format Internet Session will be held at 4 PM CT. The auction will be located in Heritage’s Dallas, Texas office at 3500 Maple Avenue, 17th Floor.
