Pedigree Comics has received a consignment of an incredible run of Silver and Bronze Age Amazing Spider-Man issues for the company’s upcoming June Comics and Original Art Auction, according to Doug Schmell, CEO and President of Pedigree. The auction is scheduled to begin in just over four weeks, on the night of Monday, June 19, 2017, and last for ten days until the night of Thursday, June 29 as a separate event on the Pedigree Comics website (www.PedigreeComics.com). The comic book listing of the auction ends on the night of Wednesday, June 28 and the original art listing ends on the night of Thursday, June 29. There is no buyer’s premium on any of the lots in the auction and every comic book and original art listing will have no reserve. Every book is CGC or CBCS graded and the minimum bid is only $100 for this Grand Auction. You can view the over 100 lots of initial high grade comics and choice art pieces in the Auction Preview right now. Just go to the Pedigree Comics website and click on the Auction banner.

The brand new Amazing Spider-Man run contains close to 70 issues between #5 and #201 and is easily the nicest and highest certified group of Amazing Spider-Man comics ever offered at Pedigree. Almost every issue (over 65) is a CGC 9.8, and it includes issue 19 in 9.9 – the earliest known copy of an Amazing Spider-Man comic in that grade and one of the earliest Marvel comics ever to receive the Mint designation. The issues under the 9.8 mark are still high grade at 9.6.

The consignment comes out of Illinois and the collection of Stewart DeSoto, a Spider-Man enthusiast and collector who only collected Spider-Man comic books. “I and my brother started collecting Amazing Spider Man (and only Spider-Man) as kids in the 1970s. We were fanatics and (carefully) read every issue as soon as it was delivered to the house. I could relate to Spider-Man because of my nerdiness and interest in science. I eventually got a Ph.D. in Physics to be like Peter Parker, and currently work as a Professor of Physics. As an adult, I continued to search for the highest grade Amazing Spider-Man in each issue, slowly building the collection over years. I was overjoyed to obtain ASM #19, with an unheard of CGC grade of 9.9. It is the only copy to be given that ‘amazing’ grade out of any of the first 72 issues,” DeSoto said.

“I continue to be obsessed with Peter Parker and his alter ego, Spider-Man. Whenever I take my kids trick or treating, I don my Spider-Man costume, complete with web shooters, and move spider-like through the streets of our neighborhood. I even took up the sport of rock climbing, because it is the closest thing one can experience to climbing walls just like Spidey, and I have even travelled the world looking for walls to climb,” DeSoto continued.

“With growing obligations as a father and a husband, plus with a new house in mind, I made the very tough decision to part with these incredible books. I just hope that the collectors out there will love and treasure my Amazing Spider-Man books as much as I have. These great books deserve it,” DeSoto added.

All 60-plus issues will be featured in the June Grand Auction and will be offered with no reserve amount. Almost every book has white or off-white to white page quality with none less than off-white. There are many great issues and iconic covers included in the run and almost every book is the highest certified copy to date.

There are three easy ways to consign your books and original art to Pedigree’s upcoming June Grand Auctions. The only criteria is that the books must be CGC or CBCS graded and worth no less than $100. If you have high grade raw books that you want to have certified and sold in the June Grand Auction, you can utilize Pedigree’s Raw To Riches Consignment Service, in which they will have your books certified under their account and will lay out all the CGC or CBCS grading fees in advance for you (refer to the website and their Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide advertisement for all the details of the Raw to Riches Consignment Service).

To consign you can ship your books or original art directly to their offices in Wellington and Boca Raton, Florida. They will inventory, scan, and upload each book into the Grand Auction listing. The books will be listed under your personal account and you will receive email notification at the conclusion of the auction with a list of every consigned book that sold along with the winning bid made.

Email the scans of the books you wish to consign directly to them at DougSchmell@pedigreecomics.com (comics) or RandyLawrence@pedigreecomics.com (art). They will format and upload each scan onto their server and then put each book into the Grand Auction listing. Please use a .jpeg format with the resolution set at 72 and the pixel width at no more than 1200 for optimum clarity. If you do not have a scanner you can use a digital camera.

You can upload your own scans, item information, book or art descriptions and reserve amounts, if any, by utilizing their Automated Consignment System. Just register onto the site and login, click the “Customer Page” tab under “Your Account” and then click “Consignments” (under the “Auctions” heading). You will then be able to enter the Pedigree Comics Consignment Management System and list your own CGC or CBCS certified books and original comic art. Pedigree will receive an email once you have uploaded the scan and book or art information for each individual item into the system and they will then review the information imparted for accuracy. The items will then be added to the Grand Auction listing to be bid on. You will be amazed how simple it is to use the Automated Consignment System.
