This week on eBay, Just Kids Nostalgia is offering fine pieces of original art from The Louis Staub Collection. During the 1930s, Louis N. Staub worked as a printer in New York City. His collection features 200 pieces of original art by some of the greatest comic artists and illustrators of that time. Several artists created detailed stories that poked fun at Staub, while others either drew a character they were famous for or sent him an autograph.
In order to collect artwork from his favorite artists, he sent them a 6” x 9-1/2” blank sheet of paper and a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Clearly, his effort paid off. For over 80 years his family kept this collection safe, but now they are ready to part with it.
Highlights to this collection include E.C. Segar’s Popeye, Chester Gould's Dick Tracy, George Herriman’s Krazy Kat, Pat Sullivan’s Felix The Cat, Harold Gray’s Little Orphan Annie, Dick Calkins’ Buck Rogers, and a piece by Howard Chandler Christy. As well as numerous other pieces by illustrators, cartoonists, and comic artists.
