On August 1-5, 2017, the World’s Fair of Money is heading to the Colorado Convention Center on 700 14th Street in Denver, Colorado. The exciting show will feature over $1 billion of historic rare coins and currency including $100,000 denomination bills, Colorado Gold Rush-era coins, a $3 million nickel and pieces of mistakenly misprinted currency.
“The World’s Fair of Money is a family-friendly, educational event sponsored by the Colorado Springs-based American Numismatic Association. This year is the association’s 50th anniversary, and to celebrate we’ll be publicly displaying in Denver famous rare coins and bank notes from our money museum. Money is history you can hold in your hands, and there will be more than $1 billion of numismatic treasures on public display from spectacular ancient Greek coins to modern money,” shared Jeff Garrett, president of the non-profit association.
During the five-day show, attendees can also find out what their old coins and currency may be worth. The United States Treasury Department Bureau of Engraving and Printing, will exhibit high denomination currency including $100,000 bills and $500 million Treasury Notes. There will also be daily demonstrations of a Civil War-era money printing press.
The American Numismatic Association Money Museum will be presenting gold coins struck during the Colorado gold rush of the mid 1800’s and a famous 1913 Liberty Head nickel – insured today for $3 million. The museum display will also include examples of U.S. currency printed with various errors, such as upside down or entirely missing serial numbers.
More than 500 dealers will be buying and selling rare coins, vintage paper money, medals, tokens and gold and silver ranging in price from $1 to more than $1 million. Numismatic experts will be on hand to provide free appraisals of the public’s old coins and paper money. Educational seminars, a children's treasure trivia game, and public auctions by Heritage Auctions and Stack’s Bowers Galleries will also be offered during the show.
