Heritage’s Sunday Internet Comics Auction – which closed on August 13, 2017 – set a new house record when $292,565 worth of comics, original art, and animation art changed hands. This auction closed just one day after Heritage’s Vintage Comic & Comic Art Auction, which realized a total of $6.3 million.
“Our formula is to offer quality material from the Golden Age to present every single week, with no reserves. This particular week, 45 lots different lots sold for at least $1,000 each,” shared Barry Sandoval, Director of Comics Operations at Heritage Auctions.
A single page of original art from Amazing Spider-Man #76 – illustrated by John Buscema and Jim Mooney, featuring a signature by Stan Lee – took top honors after selling for $11,950. A second offering of Buscema and Mooney’s art from Amazing Spider-Man #76 sold for $4,899.
After interest from 13 bidders, a Joker gag cartoon by Basil Wolverton ended at $8,962, while a second Wolverton gag cartoon for Jest reached $5,019. Additional highlights include The Incredible Hulk #1 CGC 7.5 sold for $7,767; The Amazing Spider-Man #1 CGC 7.0 realized for $7,767; and Daredevil #1 CGC 8.5 hammered for $2,390.
Currently, consignments are welcome for the upcoming Sunday Internet Comics Auctions. Items are also being accepted for Heritage Auction’s November 16-17 Comics Auction in Beverly Hills.
