Quantcast

Bidding is now open for Heritage Auctions’ 1933 Goudey PSA Set Registry Sports Collectibles Catalog Auction, which features many high grade examples of cards from the set. Bidding ends on September 21, 2017.

The set includes a Dizzy Dean #223 PSA Mint 9, one of just two survivors known to earn that grade. There are no examples of this card that have ever been rated higher. Dean pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, and St. Louis Browns over the course of his 17-year career, winning 150 games on the mound in that period of time. A four-time All-Star and the 1934 National League MVP, he was inducted into Cooperstown in 1953.

One of the other nicest cards in the set is a Lefty Grove #220 PSA Mint 9, one of just a handful graded at that level. Grove was a key ingredient in Connie Mack’s second great dynasty in the late 1920s and early 1930s. The talented southpaw was on a streak of over 20 win seasons going back to 1927, and also has the distinction of pitching the final game of his Hall of Fame career the same day that Ted Williams elevated his 1941 batting average to .406.

Other standouts in the set include a Jimmy Foxx #29 PSA NM-MT 8, a Lou Gehrig #92 PSA NM-MT 8, and the Sultan himself, a Babe Ruth #53 PSA NM-MT 8
