The first round of collectibles from The Star Wars Collection of Russell Branton are now open for bidding at Hake’s Americana & Collectibles. The selection has plenty of standout items amid action figures, play sets, and vehicles, that also include proof cards.

Proof cards are printing production samples made to finalize the card designs that would provide backing to the action figures. Because of that, only a small number have survived. Auction #222 will offer a handful of these rare cards that have been graded and encapsulated by AFA.

In lot 2118, collectors will find the Empire Strikes Back Stormtrooper 31-back-B proof card AFA 90 NM+/MT. Made for Kenner’s 1980 toy line, the rare card is unpunched.

Three cards in the auction come from the Revenge of the Jedi set. Lot 2119 has the Revenge of the Jedi Darth Vader proof card AFA 85 NM+, lot 2120 is the Revenge Imperial Snowtrooper (in Hoth battle gear) proof card AFA 90 NM+/MT, and lot 2121 features the Revenge Han Solo (in Bespin outfit) proof card AFA 90 NM+/MT. These cards were created by Kenner for the 1983 line before the title was changed to Return of the Jedi. These unpunched examples are each 1 of 50 characters produced on the Revenge proof cards. On the front of each is a “Free! Nien Nunb” action figure offer.

Two examples from Kenner’s 1984 Power of the Force line are in the auction. The Power of the Force Lando Calrissian 92-back proof card AFA 90 NM+/MT is in lot 2122. The card is hand-cut with four square corners, has no punch hole, and has a blank back. The other Power of the Force example is Ugnaught 92-back proof card AFA 85 NM+ in lot 2123. The unpunched, production-like card has a die-cut punch hole and bottom square corners.

Hake’s Auction #222 is currently open and will close on November 14-16, 2017. Get bids in now at hakes.com.
