The Wonder Woman of Themyscira and puppets of Sesame Street top the bill in this week’s Sunday Internet Comics Auction at Heritage. The auction, which closes on March 25, 2018, will feature a Wonder Woman painted illustration cel and Sesame Street double-page original art.

DC’s greatest superheroine is likely to get plenty of attention for the Wonder Woman painted illustration cel. The classically poised image was produced similar to how animation production cels are created with colors hand-painted on the back of an acetate sheet, stuck to a sheet of white paper. It differs from other animation art as the black line art was printed on a separate acetate overlay, including a third layer of acetate in the middle with blue highlights for Wonder Woman’s hair.

Wonder Woman is a founding member of the Justice League, having appeared for the first time in All Star Comics #8 in 1941. Always a staple in DC comics, her popularity saw a significant boost in the 1970s during the Wonder Woman TV show with Lynda Carter and in 2017 as Gal Gadot stepped into the role for DC films in Wonder Woman and Justice League.

This week’s auction will also present a throwback to childhood with Sesame Street double-page original art. The artwork depicts many of the main characters from the beloved children’s educational TV show, such as Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, The Count, Grover, the Cookie Monster and Elmo. It was created in mixed media on Bristol board, affixed to a larger illustration board that measures 25” x 11-1/2”.

Since its debut in 1969, Sesame Street has told stories and presented lessons by Jim Henson’s Muppets. The concept for the show developed between TV producer Joan Ganz Cooney and Carnegie Foundation Vice President Lloyd Morrisett who wanted to create a television show that could educate young children and prepare them for school.

These two pieces will join 854 other lots of comic books, original comic art, and memorabilia in the next Sunday Internet Comics Auction at Heritage. Bidding opens at 6 PM CT on their website.
