The original art session of ComicLink’s Spring Featured Auction will soon be drawing to a close on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, starting at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT). There is a great selection of comic book and fantasy related original art with representative works from some of the most celebrated artists in the field.

A major highlight is the Todd McFarlane cover to Amazing Spider-Man #311 featuring a large central Spider-Man image as he faces the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko villain Mysterio, who will be the villain for the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming. Another highlight is a rare, high-end Frank Miller cover to Daredevil #163 featuring Daredevil encountering the Hulk.

“Both the McFarlane and the Miller covers hail from significant periods from their respective title runs, each spearheaded by an artistic innovator that made a resounding impact on the trajectory of the Marvel title, character, and the industry as a whole,” ComicLink CEO Josh Nathanson said. “Each acclaimed work was also that which propelled the career of the creator into legendary status. This is truly historic stuff, and most likely among the best original art investments a collector can make within our hobby.”

Some other top highlights of the session include the cover to Marvel Premiere #13 by Frank Brunner featuring Doctor Strange in battle with Baron Mordo and Sise-neg, as well as Brunner’s title splash to the first Howard the Duck solo story ever from Giant-Size Man-Thing #4. The Avengers Annual #4 by Sal Buscema featuring the original Avengers vs. the Masters of Evil will be sold. Bronze Age fans will see the dramatic early full page Jim Starlin Thanos splash from Captain Marvel #26 with the Mad Titan’s second appearance and the first appearance of his beloved Death, with inks by Dave Cockrum.

Collector’s will also find a significant Dave Gibbons page from the final issue of Watchmen where Ozymandias explains his diabolical plan to Rorschach and Nite Owl; a complete Will Eisner The Spirit weekly section from 1951’s “Darling and the Octopus”; the Dan Adkins cover to Tales to Astonish #94 ‒ a rare “twice-up” large art Silver Age Sub-Mariner cover; the Jack Kirby cover to The Demon #4 featuring an early appearance of Etrigan; and the Kirby cover to Thor #253 featuring the Thunder God “Side-By-Side with Ulik!”.

The auction has Dave Cockrum’s cover to Ms. Marvel #21 with the second appearance of Ms. Marvel’s popular second costume designed by Cockrum. Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers) is now Captain Marvel in current Marvel comic books and will be featured in her own Marvel Studios film, Captain Marvel, opening in March 2019.

Other highlights include the Paul Smith cover to Doctor Strange #56; the Eduardo Barreto cover to DC Comics Presents #87 featuring the first appearance of Superboy-Prime; and the Art Adams cover to Classic X-Men #12, which is a homage to the X-Men #1 cover, plus an Adams page from X-Men Annual #14, the actual first appearance of Gambit ‒ it’s just the second page to ever show the popular X-Men member. There are hundreds of other high quality pieces including works by artists like Neal Adams, Bernie Wrightson, Barry Windsor-Smith, Jim Lee, John Byrne, George Pérez, and many more top names.
