Highlights of the Summer Featured Auction include many key and high grade Golden Age comic books as well as classic covers and rare issues. A one of a kind Golden Age gem in the auction is the only known Wonder Woman #1 ashcan, which predated Wonder Woman #1 by many months and features Wonder Woman on its cover. In the early Golden Age, ashcans were typically produced in extremely tiny numbers and used to secure copyrights with the U.S. Patent Office. This one is in high grade condition and has been certified at CGC 8.5.

Silver Age keys already consigned include some of the top comic books in the hobby such as Fantastic Four #1 (first Fantastic Four and origin) CGC 9.0 and CGC 6.5 and Amazing Fantasy #15 (first Spider-Man and origin) CGC 7.0 (also a CVA Exceptional). Another major offering is Tales of Suspense #39 CBCS 9.4, the first appearance and origin of Iron Man, in an extremely rare and coveted Near Mint grade. It also includes white pages. “This is the only TOS #39 9.4, or 9.2 for that matter, that ComicLink has ever offered with the highest page quality designation,” Nathanson said.

New highlights just added include X-Men #1 (first X-Men and Magneto) CGC 8.5, Avengers #1 (first Avengers and origin) CGC 8.5 (along with the previously listed CGC 8.0 Fantucchio Pedigree example), Detective Comics #66 (first Two-Face and origin) CGC 6.5, Batman #2 (second Joker and Catwoman) CGC 5.5, #11 (classic early Joker cover) CGC 6.0, #181 (first Poison Ivy) CGC 9.0, and #232 (first Ras Al Ghul) CGC 9.8, Fantastic Four #4 (first Silver Age Sub-Mariner) CBCS 9.2, #13 (first Watcher) CGC 9.2 White Mountain Pedigree, and #52 (first Black Panther) CGC 9.6, House of Secrets #92 (first Swamp Thing) CGC 9.4, Justice League of America #1 CGC 8.5, Tales of Suspense #57 (first Hawkeye) CGC 9.6, Amazing Spider-Man #129 (first Punisher) CGC 9.6, and Werewolf By Night #32 (first Moon Knight) CGC 9.6.

A few other new comic book highlights just added to the auction preview include some issues of Amazing Spider-Man run with tie-ins to upcoming movies. They include Amazing Spider-Man #2 (first Vulture) CGC 8.5, #13 (first Mysterio) CGC 9.6 and CBCS 9.2, and #101 CGC 9.8.

Other significant Silver Age Marvel comics include Incredible Hulk #1 (first Hulk) CGC 4.0, Amazing Spider-Man #1 (second Spider-Man, first Jameson) CGC 7.0, #4 (first Sandman) CGC 8.5, #14 (first Green Goblin) CGC 9.0, and #39 (Goblin revealed as Osborn, first Romita art) CGC 9.6, Strange Tales #101 (Human Torch series begins) CGC 9.2, and Fantastic Four #48 (first Silver Surfer and Galactus) CGC 9.0 Bowling Green Pedigree. Daredevil issues include #1 (first Daredevil and origin) CGC 7.5 and #7 (first red uniform, classic Wood cover/art) CGC 9.2 and a large number of other Silver Age issues in CGC 9.8, including some that are extremely rare in that condition. High grade early Avengers issues includes #1 (first Avengers) CGC 8.0 Fantucchio Pedigree as well as a consecutive run from #2 to #17 all in CGC 9.0 and 9.2.

Silver Age DC offerings include a selection of almost two dozen high grade examples from The Flash including #105 (first issue, first Mirror Master) CGC 7.5, #123 (“Flash of Two Worlds”) in both CGC 9.2 and CGC 8.0 and #139 (first Reverse Flash) CGC 9.2. Other important Silver Age DC comics include Wonder Woman #98 (first Silver Age Wonder Woman origin) in a scarce higher grade CGC 7.5 and My Greatest Adventure #80 (first Doom Patrol) CGC 8.5.

Golden Age issues include Wonder Woman #1 CGC 2.5, Adventure Comics #48 (first Hourman) CGC 5.5, and #61 (first Starman) CGC 6.0, Action Comics #19 CGC 7.0, Captain America Comics #5 CGC 6.5 and #6 CGC 6.5, Superman #76 (first Superman/Batman team-up) CGC 7.5 CVA Exceptional, and Startling Comics #52 (Schomburg cover) CGC 9.4, one of the top three graded.

There are also major Bronze Age keys such as Incredible Hulk #180 and #181 (first cameo and full Wolverine appearances) both CGC 9.8, Giant-Size X-Men #1 CGC 9.8 Signature Series, Conan the Barbarian #1 (first Conan in comics) CGC 9.8, Marvel Feature #1 (first Defenders) CGC 9.8, and Detective Comics #411 (first Talia Al Ghul) CGC 9.4.  

New original art highlights just added to the auction preview include Bernie Wrightson’s Back For More painted cover from 1978 featuring the master of the macabre at his finest. There is also a John Byrne/Terry Austin page from X-Men #132 featuring Wolverine and Storm battling the Hellfire Club. The page shows Wolverine falling through the floor into the sewer, setting up the famous cliffhanger ending of him coming out of the sewer. Don’t miss the Frank Miller page from Daredevil #163 featuring Daredevil and a rampaging Hulk. This is one of the very rare occasions where Miller drew the green goliath. Finally, ComicLink has just listed a stunning Jeff Jones oil painting from 1970 used as the cover to the paperback edition of The Purple Pirate.

Other original art highlights already consigned include one of the most important pages from Infinity Gauntlet #1, a full page George Pérez Thanos splash where he first wields the power of the Infinity Gauntlet. Another big highlight is the John Romita Jr./Al Williamson cover to Daredevil: The Man Without Fear #5, the final issue of the landmark origin tale written by Frank Miller.

There is also a great page from Todd McFarlane and Greg Capullo’s Spawn #33 which is the full page Spawn vs. Violator battle splash; also a Todd McFarlane double page spread from Spider-Man #8 featuring great images of Spider-Man in action; the Rich Buckler/Klaus Janson finale page from Jungle Action #6 featuring Kill-Monger, in his first appearance issue, throwing Black Panther down a waterfall; a significant first appearance of Scott Lang as Ant-Man page from John Byrne’s Marvel Premiere #47; a Frank Brunner page from the legendary Howard the Duck #1 featuring Howard and Beverly as barbarians; the Ed Hannigan wraparound cover to the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe #10 starring Spider-Man; a Frank Miller Sin City: The Big Fat Kill splash page; the Ernie Chan painted cover to Savage Sword of Conan #35 featuring Conan holding the severed head of a foe; the Alex Ross cover to Six Million Dollar Man: Season Six #1 and the John Cassaday covers to Amazing Spider-Man #1.3 (2014) and Daredevil #510 featuring Daredevil and the Kingpin.

Recently added are the John Romita Sr. cover to Stan Lee’s How to Draw Comics featuring Marvel’s biggest heroes and a Rich Buckler page from Supernatural Thrillers #5 featuring the first appearance of the Living Mummy.

Additional original art highlights just added to the auction preview include Jim Aparo’s cover to Batman #306 with the Dark Knight battling the Black Spider; the powerful David Finch cover to Justice League International #5 (2012) featuring Batman, Guy Gardner, and team battling the unstoppable Peraxxus; the Ryan Sook cover to DC Presents: Robin War 100 Page Super-Spectacular featuring all four Robins (Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, and Damian Wayne) battling each other; and a Steve McNiven illustration of Wolverine dressed as Deadpool.

New pieces will be added to the both the comic book and original art auction previews regularly.
