Hake’s Auctions’ November sale is fast approaching, featuring another crop of desirable collectibles that will likely cap off a very successful 51st year in business. Significant offerings in the original art section include a Bruce Timm page from Batman Adventures: Mad Love that features both Batman and Harley Quinn. Another is an Alex Ross original art page from JLA: Liberty and Justice, depicting Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Atom, and Superman in the Batcave.

Batman Adventures: Mad Love (February 1994) is a prestige format comic that told Harley Quinn’s origin story. The art by Bruce Timm, Harley’s co-creator, depicts page 46 with eight panels of art, with Harley in six of them while Batman is seen in two. The art shows Harley about to drop a bound Dark Knight into a tank of piranhas, along with moments of doubt over Joker’s true feelings for her. The 11” x 17” artboard includes text and page number stat paste-overs.

The Alex Ross JLA: Liberty and Justice fully painted original comic art page comes from the DC 2003 treasury size prestige format comic. The piece is matted to 12-1/2” x 17-1/2 with three artfully designed diagonal format panels set in the Batcave. The first and second panels show different angles of Batman, Wonder Woman, the Atom, and Aquaman and the third panel shows them (minus the Atom) with Superman in the center. It is housed in a 26-1/2” x 31-1/4” frame.
