A couple of first appearances will likely lead bids in Heritage’s current Sunday Internet Comics, Animation & Art Auction. The auction, which closes on September 23. 2018, is offering the first appearances of Doctor Doom and Groot.

Fantastic Four #5 CGC 4.5, featuring the first appearance of supervillain Doctor Doom, is considered one of the most important and valuable issues in the comic’s run. The character, whose full name is Dr. Victor Von Doom, was the leader of the fictional nation of Latveria and has gone up against some of the best heroes in Marvel. This issue depicts cover and art by Jack Kirby, a full page ad for Incredible Hulk #1, and a letter from writer-artist Roy Thomas.

“I am Groot!” – in this instance translates to Groot’s first appearance featured in Tales to Astonish #13 CGC 4.0, which will also be sold this week. The Guardian of the Galaxy team member created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby is a tree-like extraterrestrial who was introduced as an invader but became a loveable hero. This issue features a cover by Kirby and art by Kirby, Steve Ditko, Joe Maneely, Dick Ayers, and Don Heck.
