Star Wars collectibles have reached incredible heights of popularity in the collecting community, especially for the action figures. As part of the Power of the Force series, the collector coins are among those highly sought items. Luckily for collectors, Hake’s Auctions is selling a gaggle of them in their current auction.
Kenner released several waves of action figures for each of the Star Wars original films. In 1985, with no new movies in the works, Kenner rebranded the line with the name Power of the Force. New figures included Han Solo in Carbonite, Lando Calrissian as the general pilot, Luke Skywalker in the Stormtrooper costume, Anakin Skywalker, and R2-D2 with the pop-up lightsaber, among others. The new and reissued figures were packaged with aluminum character coins that depicted the individual on one side with character details on the other side.
Leading listings in Auction #225 is the coin set and Luke Skywalker variant coin. The base set contains 62 of the 1-1/2” diameter pressed aluminum coins. The large collection of coins includes variations of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo, additional main characters like Lando Calrissian, R2-D2, C-3PO, and Chewbacca, plus bounty hunters, droids, Ewoks, and members of the Rebels and Empire. The lot also features the Luke Skywalker/Rebel Leader Stormtrooper varieties with and without pupils.
A Sail Skiff with no Star Wars text AFA 80 NM and Han Solo (in Trench Coat) with “Hans” misspelling AFA 85 NM+ will also likely encourage plenty of bids. Both examples are the very rare Type VI coins and come with Collectible Investment Brokerage COA.
Additional Power of the Force coins in the auction include R2-D2, Yoda, A-Wing Pilot light gold, EV-9D9 Torture Droid, Luke (Battle Poncho), A-Wing Pilot, Jawas Desert Scavengers, Luke (X-Wing Pilot) small, and Bib Fortuna, plus a Star Wars: Ewoks Collectors Coin King Gorneesh Silver/Modern reprint. All of these coins are graded AFA 85 NM+ with the exception of the A-Wing Pilot at AFA 90.
The Power of the Force collector coins are currently open for bidding in lots 2286-2298 at hakes.com. The auction closes next week on November 13-15, 2018.
