Copies of Phantom Lady #17 CGC 4.0 and Journey Into Mystery #83 CGC 5.0 are projected to be high sellers in Heritage’s current Sunday Internet Comics, Animation & Art Auction, which closes November 11, 2018.
The rare copy of Phantom Lady #17 CGC 4.0 features a cover by Matt Baker, with art by Rudy Palais and Jack Kamen, and stories by Ruth Roche (credited as Gregory Page). This Baker cover was mentioned and reproduced in the anti-comics book, Seduction of the Innocent.
Phantom Lady was created by Arthur Peddy and originated in 1941 as a Quality Comics feature. The character comes into play when Sandra Knight becomes Phantom Lady after her friend is murdered. The character became the well known incarnation after Baker redesigned her in Phantom Lady #13.
Another book likely to see significant bidding is Journey Into Mystery #83 CGC 5.0, featuring the first appearance of Thor. The Asgardian god of thunder uses his enchanted hammer Mjolnir and other natural powers to protect his home and other realms throughout the galaxy.
Created by Stan Lee, with a cover by Jack Kirby and art by Kirby and Steve Ditko, this issue is among the most popular Silver Age keys.
Heritage’s current Sunday auction contains 874 lots of comic books, original art, and memorabilia. Bidding opens at 6 PM CT on ha.com.
