Now that ComicLink has launched its Fall Featured Auction, sellers can make consignment arrangements to reserve space for their comic books and artwork in the January Focused Auction and the Winter Featured Auction beginning in February.

“We do already have a number of exciting items lined up for the new year including a particularly rare piece of original art, the Al Williamson cover to Weird Fantasy #18,” ComicLink founder and CEO Josh Nathanson told Scoop. “It will be up for bid in the Winter Featured Auction. Williamson is considered one of the greatest artists of science fiction related comic books and comic strips, but he drew only a small number of covers for EC, making this an unusual opportunity for collectors. For this cover, Williamson took an image from the story he drew called ‘Homesick!’. We see a panoramic view of astronauts repairing a rocket heading toward a space station floating above the Earth. Williamson’s use of perspective on this cover was quite brilliant.”

EC great Al Feldstein provided the inks for most of the cover. When he later signed the original art, Feldstein added a small drawing of an alien next to his signature on the lower right hand side. A third great artist, Roy Krenkel, assisted with the inking, adding technological details to the space station.

The cover also proclaims a story written by legendary science fiction author Ray Bradbury, which was called “Zero Hour.” Because of this, Bradbury signed this art in the lower left, and it is the only EC cover that they know of that was signed by the iconic sci-fi author, according to ComicLink.

Weird Fantasy #18 also contained the very famous and historically important EC story “Judgement Day,” that addressed racial prejudice. It was a reprint of “Judgement Day” that caused a battle between Bill Gaines and the newly established Comics Code Authority, which led to Gaines shutting down his comic book line forever.
