In Heritage’s Animation Art Auction, they will offer a selection of memorabilia celebrating Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday and one of the largest collections of art by Mary Blair, many of which came directly from the Mary Blair Family Trust. These and many more items will be sold on December 8-9, 2018 in Beverly Hills, CA.

The auction contains 66 lots featuring Mickey, including titles like Steamboat Willie, Plane Crazy, Barn Dance, and The Opry House, along with pieces from Fantasia. Rarities include the Sorcerer’s Apprentice in Fantasia, Two-Gun Mickey, The Brave Little Tailor, The Mickey Mouse Club, and Mickey early publicity art signed by Walt Disney.

This selection is the best that Heritage has brought to the market, according to the auction house. The Mickey art lots span his earliest roles to original art from his recent video game, Epic Mickey. There are animation drawings, production cels, layout drawings, original paintings, bronze statues, and even the Walt Disney Studio Mousecar Award.

The work of celebrated Disney artist Mary Blair will be featured in the auction, some of which comes from the Mary Blair Family Trust, including concept art from Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Song of the South, and Cinderella. Also included is a Contemporary Resort Hotel tile display prototype from the 90-foot mural at the hotel, “It’s a Small World” park ride penguin prop and Blue Hair Boy statue based on her artwork, and a Cinderella coach and castle concept painting.

“The significance of this auction cannot be overstated, when it comes to the appeal to serious collectors of animation art,” Heritage Auctions Animation Art Director Jim Lentz said. “This sale includes work from one of the most popular Disney artists of all time, and perhaps the most popular comic character ever created. This auction really does have something that will appeal to collectors of all levels.”

The auction contains one of the largest Peanuts/Charlie Brown collections, Heritage has offered. Highlights are The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show “Happy Dance” Snoopy and Charlie production cel sequence of seven with pan master background, and from It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, they have a Sally and Linus production cel setup, a Lucy Van Pelt, Violet Gray, and Charlie production cel, and a Charlie and Lucy production cel.

Other top lots include Slue Foot Sue’s Golden Horseshoe concept art by Sam McKim, Haunted Mansion Stretching Room Disneyland painting original art, Cinderella coach and castle concept painting by Mary Blair, Lady and the Tramp background color key/concept painting by Eyvind Earle, Cinderella production cel setup on master background, and The Lady in Red painting original art by Mary Blair.
