Part II of eMoviePoster.com’s March Major Auction includes a very special collection of pressbooks from serial movies based on comic book and comic strip characters. Part II of the March Major Auction is open from February 26 to March 5, 2019.

When it comes to serial movies based on comic book and comic strip characters, it is typical that only a handful of each one-sheet poster is known to have survived. Often there are few of each because theaters had to return the posters after using them, and the general public could never purchase them, as they did with comic books.

But the pressbooks for these serial movies, which were sent to theaters to try to get them to book the movies, are far more rare than the already rare posters. That is because few theaters cared about ordering posters for serials, where they would show one chapter at a time, so far fewer of these pressbooks were distributed than pressbooks for feature films, and it’s possible that most theaters discarded them after looking at them.

In the case of most of these pressbooks, they are either one of a very few known to have survived, or the only one known to have survived. It took an incredibly dedicated collector a lifetime to find these, according to eMoviePoster. They have never before auctioned many of these pressbooks and because many of them may be the only existing example of that pressbook, this may be the only chance collectors have to acquire many of these.

All of these pressbooks will start at auction at $1 each on the night of February 26, with no reserves, and no buyer’s premiums. Bids can be made on eMoviePoster’s website once the auction is live.
