The 2019 Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention Estate Auctions promises to be their best one yet. The auction will be held in two sessions during the convention, with the first on Friday, April 12 and the second on Saturday, April 13. Events will take place at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center in Lombard, IL.

Friday’s session will contain 230 lots of material from the estate of famed collector Robert Weinberg. Crossing the auction block Saturday night are 100 lots from the estate of Glenn Lord (literary executor for the Robert E. Howard estate), followed by 56 lots from other consignors. More lots will be added to Saturday night, some of which will be material consigned by con attendees.

Highlights include the first issue of Weird Tales, a fine copy of Weird Tales (December 1932) with the first appearance of Conan, plus other issues from the title, including rare bedsheet issues. Not At Night 1928 American edition signed by contributors H.P. Lovecraft and August Derleth, and scarce issues of the pulp, The All-Story, with installments of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ John Carter of Mars will be offered.

There’s a complete run of the rare pulp, Excitement, a first edition of Frank Herbert’s Dune, a nearly complete bound run of Double Detective, the scarce The Case Against the Comics 32-page pamphlet by Gabriel Lynn (predating Seduction of the Innocent), and Lovecraft’s The Shunned House, printed by Recluse Press, which Glenn Lord had professionally bound.

Two of sci-fi editor Ray Palmer’s bound copies of Science Fiction Digest and Fantasy Magazine that were signed and inscribed by Julius Schwartz to Bob Weinberg, 30 copies of Dime Detective Magazine, the original Kane manuscript by Karl Edward Wagner, and 20 of the 21 issues of Canadian fantasy, Uncanny Tales, plus Canadian editions of Weird Tales and the only issue of Eerie Tales will cross the block.

Featured items are a 1935 limited edition printing of The Goblin Tower by Frank Belknap Long, rare Clark Ashton Smith items like Odes and Sonnets, Sandalwood and Other Poems, and The Hill of Dionysus: A Selection, a complete run of the bedsheet pulp Scientific Detective Monthly/Amazing Detective Tales, including the scarce ashcan issue, and issues of Mind Magic, Flash Gordon Strange Adventure Magazine, and People’s Favorite Magazine.

Early Arkham House books like Robert E. Howard’s Always Comes Evening, Clark Ashton Smith’s Out of Space and Time and Spells and Philtres, and Donald Wandrei’s The Web of Easter Island and August Derleth: Twenty Years of Writing, 1926-1946 and items signed by H.P. Lovecraft, A. Merritt, August Derleth, Clark Ashton Smith, Edmond Hamilton, Mary Elizabeth Counselman, Greye La Spina, Daisy Bacon, and others will be sold.

Additional highlights are issues of Action Stories, Fight Stories, Fantastic Novels, The Magic Carpet Magazine, The All-Story, and Private Detective Stories, a complete run of Oriental Stories, and the 1938 limited printing copy of The Sign of the Burning Hart: A Tale of Arcadia by David H. Keller.

Each session will begin at approximately at 8:15 PM. There will be a 10% buyer’s premium added to winning bids and payment can be made by cash, check, credit card, or PayPal. The complete auction catalog can be viewed online.
