Last week, ComicConnect’s first Event Auction of 2019 wrapped up on Friday evening as the New York-based auction house celebrated another multi-million-dollar total in sales, and an overall rousing success. The auction offered a complete set of Centaur Comics, one of the publishers that helped launch the comic book industry and were responsible for creating such Golden Age favorites as Amazing-Man Comics, Keen Detective Funnies, and Funny Picture Stories. Collectors got a chance to bid on a variety of key books from all eras as well an impressive offering of original comic art.
Golden Age highlights included Action Comics #7 CGC 2.5 $87,000, Amazing Man #22 CGC 7.5 $54,002, Batman #1 CGC 1.0 $46,226, Captain America Comics #1 CGC 7.0 $243,000, Captain America Comics #1 CGC 3.5 Joe Simon Signature $86,001, Detective Comics #28 CGC 8.5 Billy Wright copy $72,000, Detective Comics #38 CGC 6.0 $64,000, Superman #1 CGC 1.5 $120,777 and CGC 6.0 R $51,333, and Wonder Woman #1 CGC 6.0 $58,556.
The top Silver and Bronze Age books included Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 5.5 $51,000 and #15 CGC 9.6 R $48,500, Fantastic Four #1 CGC 8.0 $74,000, Incredible Hulk #1 CGC 7.0 $41,500, and Showcase #4 CGC 7.5 $71,000.
Original comic art sales were topped by Green Lantern #110 cover by Mike Grell $14,200, Mister Miracle #14 cover by Jack Kirby $23,333, and X-Men #150 splash by Dave Cockrum $11,000.
