Hake’s opened Auction #227 on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, with some totally radical toys that are surfing for a new home. Featured in the auction are over 30 lots of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures, vehicles, and playsets from the late ’80s and early ’90s.
One of the highlights is the Collectors Four-Pack Original Turtles AFA 80 set of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michaelangelo 4-1/4” action figures. The Target exclusive set from Playmate’s popular 1992 toy line comes in a window display box.
A lot of all ten action figures from the 10-back line of 1988 will give collectors the chance to purchase an already complete group. The lot consists of the four Turtles, Splinter (soft head), April O’Neil (no stripes version), Shredder (soft head), a Foot Soldier, Bebop, and Rocksteady. Each 5” figure comes on a blister card that has character specific art and bios.
Individual Series 1 figures include Donatello, Raphael, Michaelangelo, Shredder, Bebop, and Rocksteady. Series 2 figures in the auction are Metalhead, Ace Duck, and Leatherhead. Some of the later series figures offered are Napoleon Bonafrog, Mutagen Man, Punker Don, Shell Slammin’ Mike, and a rare variant Warrior Winged Donatello.
When the teenage mutants need a lift, the Turtle Party Wagon Series 1 vehicle AFA 80 is the perfect choice. Advertised as the “Mutant Attack Van” from the 1989 toy line, it features a spring-action Foot tenderizer weapon, anti-Foot blasters and wacko bombs, and sits six figures.
The auction also has a few playsets like the factory sealed Sewer Playset. Housed in a 5-1/2” x 15-1/2” x 21” box, the 1990 Playmates toy is packaged as “The Double-Decker Hangout and Hideout for Turtles!” It features a high voltage battle swing, real working elevator, and realistic sewer pipe passageways.
Another special playset for TMNT fans is the factory sealed Technodrome. This Playmates toy is described as “The Gigantic Double-decker Mobile Fortress” and comes in a 6-1/4” x 15-1/2” x 22-1/4” box. It features three mutant play areas, spring-loaded brain scrambler, Turtle-smashing EyeSpy radar, Turtle mutation chamber, and other traps, plus bonus secret blueprints.
A few other highlights include the Surfer Leo with Mondo Mutant Surfer Tube, Cave-Turtle action figure and dino boxed sets, Bodacious Bikers vehicles, stretch figures, and a Pizza Thrower vehicle.
These toys are joined by 2,000 other lots of pop culture and historical collectibles that are open for bids until July 10-11. The entire auction can be viewed at hakes.com.
