The premier CertifiedLink.com auction is now open, offering an impressive selection of Certified Coins, from rare ancients dating back to 300 BC to higher grade US coins dating back to the 1800s. The auction also includes certified vintage sports cards, vintage movie posters, and video games (including some five-figure rarities). Further coverage on other categories can be found elsewhere in Scoop.
CertifiedLink.com is managed by the same team that runs ComicLink, one of the leading auction venues for comic book and original art, and SportscardLink.
“We began selling certified coins under the ComicLink.com brand two years ago, and we are excited to migrate this part of our business to the more robust CertifiedLink.com site,” founder and Managing Director, Josh Nathanson, said. “CertifiedLink.com will conduct auctions of certified and authenticated collectibles at least quarterly, and certified coins will be a big part of our auctions going forward. I find the material very interesting. Comic book collectors perceive issues from Journey Into Mystery title from the mid-1960s featuring Hercules to be ‘vintage.’ They are right, and these books are cool, but it is an entirely different thing to hold in your hand a coin in great shape dating back to 300 B.C. that depicts Hercules, Zeus or Pegasus, struck at a time when the figures were still worshipped as actual deities. Holding a beautiful gold coin that was minted around the time of the Civil War is likewise an exciting feeling. It kind of puts things in perspective.”
The US coins are examples issued in the 1800s and early 1900s (with a few modern commemoratives). Despite being minted many years ago, these third party coins remain in great shape. Numerous denominations are represented.
“Among my favorites are affordable Double Eagle gold pieces from the 1800s and early 1900s that carry with them about $1,300 just in the melt value of the gold itself,” Nathanson said.
Some specific examples of US coins include Double Eagle Gold - Saint-Gaudens 1908 No Motto PCGS MS-65, 1910 PCGS MS-64, 1914-D PCGS MS-64, and 1924 PCGS MS-64 1; Double Eagle Gold - Coronet 1873 Open 3 NGC AU58 and 1883-S NGC MS61; silver dollars - Morgan Liberty Head 1886 NGC M-S 65; five-cent pieces - Shield 1883 NGC AU 58; and half cents - Coronet Braided Hair 1849 large date C-1 1/2C NGC M-S 62 BN.
Ancient coins are ones issued as early as 300 B.C. that are in remarkable shape including Roman and Greek coins and those of numerous other city-states.
