The ComicLink Summer Featured Auction is open for bidding and there are close to 450 examples of highly collectible original artwork from the world of comic books, comic strips, and fantasy. Comic book lots close August 27-29, 2019, and bidding for all items within the Original Art Session will close on Tuesday, September 3.

A separate article in this week’s issue of Scoop will cover the certified vintage comics offered in this same auction which are closing the previous week.

“We are excited to see our consignors put some wonderful original art pieces into our Summer Featured Auction. Many of the top artists across all eras in comic book history are represented,” ComicLink founder and Managing Director, Josh Nathanson, said.

An extensive preview of top highlights include Graham Ingels complete eight-page story to Haunt of Fear #21 entitled “An Off-Color Heir”; Tony Moore Walking Dead #1 two historic pages (sold separately) – page 3 where Rick wakes up from his coma and page 4 where he wanders out into the hallway of the hospital and sees his first zombie; Marie Severin Captain Marvel #15 cover and Tales to Astonish #100 page with Hulk battling Sub-Mariner; Don Heck twice-up, Tales of Suspense #60 Iron Man title splash; Jim Lee cover to Infinite Crisis #3 which depicts Batman meeting the Golden Age Superman, as well as Lee pages from All-Star Batman and Robin, Fantastic Four, and Justice League; John Buscema Marvel Two-in-One #34 cover with the Thing and Nighthawk; Sal Buscema Sub-Mariner #34 title splash with a huge Hulk image – first page of the “Defender’s Prelude” saga with the title “Titans Three”; and Brian Bolland Robin #3 cover from the popular first Robin miniseries.

Al Milgrom Avengers #234 cover featuring the saga of the Scarlet Witch; Mike Mignola Doctor Tomorrow #1 cover and Hellboy: The Wild Hunt #3 cover; Gil Kane Omega the Unknown #8 cover; Bill Sienkiewicz Savage Sword of Conan #102 painted cover; Mike Zeck Captain America #329 cover with Cap surrounded by horrific monsters in a sewer; Dorian Vallejo Savage Sword Of Conan cover painting; Herb Trimpe Defenders #73 cover with Hulk, Hellcat and team; Barry Windsor-Smith Conan the Barbarian pages from #3 and #6 from the artist’s legendary run and a 1968 pinup of Hela, and the K’ing Kung-Fu #2 paperback novel cover painting; Al Williamson and Frank Frazetta John Wayne Adventure Comics #3 page and #8 page (sold separately); and Erik Larsen Amazing Spider-Man #324 title splash with a large, upside-down image of Spidey and Nova #7 cover with Nova vs. Venom are other top highlights.

There’s a nice selection of work by Jack Kirby, one of leading artist in comic book history, which includes twice-up “Pre-Hero Kirby Monster” splash pages from Amazing Adventures #5 (“Monsteroso”) and Tales of Suspense #27 (“Oog”) along with multiple panel pages from each (sold separately), Tales to Astonish #83 twice-up splash page with three large panels featuring the Sub-Mariner in action, Fantastic Four #83 “It’s Clobberin’ Time” battle page with the Thing and Mr. Fantastic, Journey Into Mystery #118 twice-up Thor and Loki page, Tales to Astonish #50 twice-up Giant-Man battle page inked by Steve Ditko, Tales of Suspense #78 twice-up page with Captain America and Nick Fury teaming up, Omac #3 title splash, two Kamandi pages, Turtle Soup #4 splash page with the only time the King drew the TMNT for publication, and a twice-up Jack Kirby/Wally Wood page from Challengers of the Unknown #7.

Some other highlights include John Romita Jr. Spectacular Spider-Man #255 cover with the Green Goblin, Detective Comics #51 variant cover with Batman holding an automatic gun, Wolverine #30 complete 23-page interior of story featuring Logan and Elektra, and Spider-Man #74 splash with a huge Spider-Man image; Mark Bagley Marvel Age #89 cover featuring the New Warriors in a preview to the first issue of their own series with Al Williamson inks; Denis Beauvais Aliens #2 painted cover; John Bolton Batman: Manbat #3 splash with a huge painted image of Batman; John Byrne Marvel Team-up #68 page with Spider-Man lifting up a caged Man-Thing, Fantastic Four #290 page with Annihilus vs. Blastaar, and Sensational She-Hulk #32 half splash with She-Hulk and Mole Man; and Greg Capullo Batman #4 page 1 splash with a large image of Batman from the acclaimed “Court of Owls” saga.

Nick Cardy Superman #285 cover, a rarely available cover from the Bronze Age Superman title; Frank Cho Spider-Man and Mary Jane illustration; Daniel Clowes Eightball #2 title splash from “Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron”; Steve Ditko Monster Menace #2 cover with several Kirby monsters of the early Silver Age, including Groot and Fin Fang Foom; Kevin Eastman Raphael #1 splash with Raphael and Casey Jones from the latter’s first appearance; Adi Granov three interlocking variant cover portrait paintings of Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Punisher (sold separately); Joe Jusko Mighty Thor #16 corner box art variant cover – an homage to John Buscema’s corner box art used on every Thor cover during the Bronze Age; Sam Kieth Stunning painted cover to The Maxx: Maximized #29; and George Pérez X-Men Annual #3 page with Terry Austin inks featuring Wolverine, Storm, and Cyclops are among the highlights.

Additional original art is Stephen Platt Prophet #5 wraparound cover with incredible detail and appearances by Wolverine and other Marvel heroes and Marc Spector: Moon Knight #57 splash with a powerful image of Moon Knight unmasking; Joe Quesada Wolverine: Origins #4 cover with Wolverine vs Captain America and Sleepwalker Holiday Special #1 cover; Tim Sale Batman: Dark Victory #8 title splash with the Joker and Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight Halloween Special #1 splash with Batman battling Scarecrow from Sale’s first Batman story; Walt Simonson X-Factor #15 page with Apocalypse introducing his Horsemen for the first time; Chris Ware Quimby the Mouse page; and Bernie Wrightson two pages (sold separately) from Marvel Graphic Novel: The Amazing Spider-Man in Hooky, the master artist’s only Spider-Man story.
