ComicLink’s Focused Auction is now open, featuring Golden to Modern Age comics and related artwork. There are thousands of comic books offered in this auction, starting at $1 and with no seller reserve price. There is a large, diverse selection of scarce Golden Age comic books, and an extensive selection of key and high grade Silver to Modern Age comic books, most certified by CGC and CBCS. There are close to 600 examples of original art rendered by hundreds of creators including icons like Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Frank Frazetta, Gil Kane, John Buscema, Neal Adams, John Byrne, George Pérez, Joe Kubert, Gene Colan, Michael Kaluta, John Romita Jr., Walt Simonson, Alex Toth, Dave Cockrum, and Michael Turner.

The auction will begin closing early next week, starting with select key and high grade Silver Age and early Bronze Age (pre-1976) comic books. Lots will start closing Tuesday, September 24 and lots will continue closing on weekdays until the art session ends on Thursday, October 3. Each evening’s lots start closing at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.

The auction includes desirable Silver and early Bronze Age keys including Amazing Fantasy #15 (first Spider-Man and origin) CGC 4.5 and CGC 4.0, Strange Tales #110 (first Doctor Strange) CGC 9.0 and CGC 7.0, Incredible Hulk #181 (first full Wolverine) CGC 9.6, Fantastic Four #1 (first Fantastic Four and origin) CGC 4.0 and #3 (first uniforms) CGC 9.0, Tales of Suspense #52 (first Black Widow) CGC 9.0, Daredevil #1 (first Daredevil and origin) CGC 7.5, Avengers #4 (first Silver Age Captain America) CGC 8.0 (along with examples of #1), Tales to Astonish #27 (first Ant-Man/Hank Pym and origin) CGC 5.5 and #44 (first Wasp and origin) CGC 8.0, Journey Into Mystery #89 (Kirby Thor cover) CGC 9.2, X-Men #1 (first X-Men and Magneto) CGC 4.0, and Giant-Size X-Men #1 (first Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler and second full Wolverine) CGC 9.6.

There’s a selection of higher grade Amazing Spider-Man keys including #3 (first Doctor Octopus) CGC 8.5, #5 (early Doctor Doom) CGC 8.5, #6 (first Lizard) CGC 8.5, #13 (first Mysterio) CGC 9.0, #14 (first Green Goblin) CGC 7.5, #31 (first Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn) CGC 9.4, #39 (Norman Osborn revealed as the Green Goblin, Romita art begins) CGC 9.4, #46 (first Shocker) CGC 9.6, #50 (first Kingpin) CBCS 9.4 and CGC 9.0, #60 (Kingpin cover) CGC 9.4, #101 (first Morbius) CGC 9.6, and #129 (first Punisher) CGC 9.6, and Annual #1 (first Sinister Six) CGC 9.0.

The auction includes the second half of the Amazing Spider-Man run from the prestigious Federal Hill Collection that ComicLink started selling in the recently completed Featured Auction. This auction contains over 50 examples from the run ranging from #107-200, plus Annuals #9-12. This includes popular issues like #121 (death of Gwen Stacy) and #122 (death of Green Goblin), both in CGC 9.6. The Federal Hill Collection is a fine collection assembled by a single collector, with an average grade of CGC 9.6 and many CGC 9.8. Among the group offered are several that have been graded CGC 9.8 CVA Exceptional, meaning they are among the best 9.8 examples ever seen. This is just the start for the Federal Hill collection as there are still over 1,800 comic books that will be auctioned exclusively on ComicLink in the months to come.

A few early Bronze Age Marvel keys that are seeing increased demand based on inclusion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are Tomb of Dracula #10 (first Blade) CGC 9.8 and CGC 9.6, Special Marvel Edition #15 (first Shang Chi, Master of Kung-Fu) CGC 9.8 and CGC 9.6, and Ghost Rider #2 (first full Daimon Hellstrom, the Son of Satan) CGC 9.8.

Silver Age and early Bronze Age DC keys include Showcase #22 (first Silver Age Green Lantern and origin) CGC 7.0, Batman #121 (first Mr. Freeze) CGC 6.5, Action Comics #242 (first Brainiac) CGC 5.5, and Forever People #1 (first full Darkseid) CGC 9.8.

The auction includes hundreds of rare and highly collectible Golden Age offerings including many keys from Batman titles, including Detective Comics #71 (Robinson Joker cover) CGC 6.0, #69 (Robinson Joker cover), and #168 featuring the first origin of the Joker. They have Batman #47 (origin cover/story, Batman catches his parent’s killer) CGC 7.5, #59 (first Deadshot) CBCS 5.0, and Joker covers including #23, #44, #73, and Detective Comics #69.

Other Golden Age highlights include Real Life Comics #3 (Schomburg Hitler cover) CGC 4.5, Action Comics #9 (early Superman story) CGC 2.5, Daredevil Comics #11 (Biro cover) CGC 5.5, Flash Comics #92 (Black Canary cover) CGC 5.5, Captain America Comics #7 (Kirby cover) CGC 5.5 and #40 (Japanese WWII cover), All Star Comics #7 (first Superman and Batman in same story) CGC 7.5, several other Alex Schomburg World War II covers from both Timely and Nedor as well as some post-War sci-fi covers, L.B. Cole covers across genres, Matt Baker romance covers, a large selection from the Blue Beetle title including a relatively affordable #1 (1939, origin of Blue Beetle) and some of the popular late 1940s Jack Kamen GGA covers from the run. Pre-code horror includes a wide selection from EC’s Tales From the Crypt and Haunt of Fear, as well as the Tales of Terror Annual CGC 8.5 and Shock SuspenStories #6 (Wally Wood KKK cover) CGC 5.5. There also many Atlas examples from including Spellbound #17 (Bill Everett cover) CGC 7.0.

The auction features close to 1,850 from the Modern era after 1975 include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 (first Turtles and origin) CGC 7.5, Batman Adventures #12 (first Harley Quinn in comics) CGC 9.8, Amazing Spider-Man #194 (first Black Cat) CGC 9.8 and #300 (first full Venom) CGC 9.6, Marvel Spotlight #28 (first Moon Knight solo) CGC 9.8 and #32 (first Spider-Woman) CGC 9.8, Ms Marvel #18 CGC 9.8, Nova #1 CGC 9.8, New Mutants #87 (first Cable) and #98 (first Deadpool) CGC 9.8, Eternals #1 (first Eternals) CGC 9.8, #2 (first Celestials) CGC 9.8, and #3 (first Sersi) CGC 9.8. G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #21 (first Storm Shadow, Silent issue) CGC 9.8, and Transformers #1 (first Autobots and Decepticons) CGC 9.8. There are also two very rare Mint condition examples from the Spectacular Spider-Man run, #4 (first Hitman) CGC 9.9 (single highest graded) and #69 (early Cloak and Dagger cover) CGC 9.9 (highest, one of three).

The Original Art, offers over 550 lots by more than 100 artists. A few highlights include Gil Kane Superman #389 cover; Frank Frazetta “Nude Woman and Gnome” illustration; Jim Lee and Scott Williams page from Batman #611, a page from the “Hush” saga; John Buscema pages from Wolverine #1 and #4, a Black Widow page from Amazing Adventures #2, and a Ka-Zar and Mockingbird page from Astonishing Tales #12; Sal Buscema pages from Avengers #89 with Captain Marvel from the opening chapter of the Kree-Skrull War; Jack Kirby page from his Hunger Dogs graphic novel that concluded his Fourth World/New Gods saga; Neal Adams Batman illustration; John Byrne Justice League illustration; Steve Ditko page from Marvel Super-Heroes #6 with Speedball; Ed Benes Nina & Ariel cover; David Williams Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight Vol. 4 trade paperback cover; and Charlie Adlard the key opening page of The Walking Dead: Here's Negan origin story.
