Quantcast

If you keep up with CW's The Flash, then you've recently heard the name Hunter Zolomon tossed around. But while you may know the shows backstory for this infamous villain, are you familiar with the back story from the comics?

Originally created by Geoff Johns and Scott Kolins in 2001, Hunter made his grand entrance into DC in Flash Secret Files and Origins #3.

Hunter Zolomon was just a regular kid trying to make it through life unscathed. Unfortunately for him he was scathed…he was scathed real bad. It all started the day he left for college, and his mother decided that was the best time to reveal his father as a serial killer. A tragic scenario unfolds: mom calls cops, dad kills mom, police kill dad.

After this devastating incident, Hunter became obsessed with understanding the criminal mind, studying both psychology and criminology. Later on, Hunter joined the F.B.I. and eventually became a profiler for the Department of Metahuman Hostilities. It was through this work that Hunter met the current Flash, Wally West, and the pair became close friends. Which is why when Hunter was left paralyzed by Gorilla Grodd, he turned to Wally for help. Hunter pleaded with Wally to use the time-traveling Cosmic Treadmill to go back and prevent this from happening. Sadly, Wally deemed it too risky and Hunter attempted it on his own. A terrible idea really.

The treadmill exploded and shifted Hunter's connection to time, altering his personal timeline while granting him sonic speed. Hunter was rocked by this incident and slowly started to lose himself. He reasoned that Wally didn't help him because he had never experienced great personal tragedy.

Thus, Hunter became Zoom and made it his life's mission to make Wally a better hero through tragedy. Sealing Zoom's fate as the third Reverse-Flash and one of the greatest speedster super-villains that the Flash would ever face.

With friends like these who needs enemies?
