Unless you live under a rock, you're surely familiar with the iconic relationship between Clark Kent-Superman and Lois Lane. But throughout the comics there was one other character that added a new dimension to this dynamic duo. Are you familiar with her?

Catherine Jane "Cat" Grant, created by Marv Wolfman and Jerry Ordway, made her first appearance in Adventures of Superman #424 in 1987. After divorcing her husband, Cat accepted a job as a gossip columnist for the Daily Planet, moving herself and her young son Adam to Metropolis. There was an immediate attraction between Cat and Clark which led to a close friendship and even a romantic bond forming. Unfortunately for Cat, Clark was – and will always be – in love with Lois Lane.

Wanting to prove herself as a real reporter, Cat joined the TV station WGBS as an on-air reporter. Eventually, Cat was given her own talk show called The Cat Grant Show. She even had Superman on the show for an interview, which was cut short by the rampage of Doomsday. In addition to her work for WGBS, Cat continued to work for the Daily Planet and even developed a close friendship with Lois Lane. Focusing on her career, Cat worked her way up to station manager of WGBS.

Later on, amid sexual harassment claims, Cat had her boss Vinnie Edge removed from the board and took over his position. Then tragedy struck Cat when her son was abducted and murdered by the Toyman. Once again focusing on work, Cat served as the White House Press Secretary during Lex Luthor's tenure as President of the United States. Despite all the ups and downs of her life, Cat Grant continues to be the biggest boss in the DC Universe.

You can watch Cat Grant make grown men cower on The CW's Supergirl when it returns for season two this fall. Cat Grant is portrayed by Calista Flockhart.
