Across the world of pop culture, adorable and multitalented animals were never in short supply. From Ace the Bat-Hound and Krypto the Super-Dog, to even the karate skilled Penguins of Madagascar. One little animal even possessed an alien advantage. Do you know who this was?

Beppo the Super-Monkey, created by Otto Binder and George Papp, made his debut in Superboy #76 in 1959. Despite appearing to be a normal Earth monkey, Beppo is actually from Superman’s home planet, Krypton. When baby Kal-El’s (Superman) rocket was coming to Earth, Beppo decided to stow away, thus saving him from destruction on Krypton. After landing, Beppo hopped out unseen and ventured off on his own for a little while. He even survived living in the jungle for a short period. Although, it helped that as a Kryptonian ape he had an array of superpowers.

Many of his powers were similar to that of Superman, including super strength, speed, durability and longevity, invulnerability, telescopic vision, x-ray vision, heat vision, and flight. One day, Beppo used his telescopic vision and found Kal-El living in Smallville with the Kents. While Beppo was excited to reunite with Kal-El, as a monkey he inadvertently caused all sorts of havoc. During a firework show, the Simian of Steel was spooked by the explosions and took off into space. Eventually, Beppo made his way back to Earth and encountered Supergirl.

Later on, Supergirl introduced Beppo to Superdog and Streaky the Supercat. Together the three went on to form the Legion of Super-Pets, alongside Proty and Comet the Super-Horse. During the Crisis on Infinite Earths series, Beppo was retconned out of existence. He briefly returned to existence in Infinite Crisis by the Psycho-Pirate, before making a final appearance in Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds #5.
