As Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is preparing to wow audiences on the big screen, fans can’t stop talking about a certain villain’s cinematic debut. How much do you know about the golden goddess who teased fans in a trailer for the upcoming film?
Kismet, a/k/a Paragon, Her, and Ayesha was created by Len Wein and David Kraft. She initially appeared as Paragon in The Incredible Hulk Annual #6, while her appearances as Her and Kismet first took place in Marvel Two-in-One. She later appeared as Ayesha for the first time in Fantastic Four Vol. 3 #11. Kismet was the second attempt by the Enclave to create a super-powerful being in their Citadel of Science called the Beehive.
She initially appeared as a muscular male and proceeded to battle the Hulk, before re-incubating into a cocoon. When she emerged, she had returned to her familiar blond-haired, golden-skinned form. However, she now possessed the ability to tap, store, and manipulate cosmic energy for a variety of effects. In addition, to projection of concussive force bolts and flight, Kismet is also virtually immortal.
In an attempt to find a possible mate, Kismet held a competition among some of the most powerful men on Earth. This included Quasar, Hercules, Wonder Man, Hyperion, Doc Samson, and Forgotten One. After an altercation with his current girlfriend, Kismet eventually becomes Quasar’s companion - for a time. Later on, Kismet battled the Black Fleet and destroyed the planet Scadam.
She then came to the rescue of three of her creators in the Beehive, healing them in cocoons. They emerged as golden skinned superhumans and the four of them journeyed into space. Later even still, she took on the name Ayesha and found herself under the control of the supervillain Crucible. But to what end? Maybe the upcoming Guardians sequel will shed some light on the situation.
Ayesha, portrayed by Elizabeth Debicki, will be making her film debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. on May 5, 2017.
