When it comes to supervillain origin stories, one of the most recurring themes is scientific experiment gone wrong. Such was the case for Joshua Williamson and Neil Googe’s creation, Ramsey Rosso. This scientist, introduced in The Flash #29, was a long-time sufferer of hemophilia – a condition that causes the sufferer to bleed for a longer time after an injury than if his/her blood clotted normally. Through various experiments, Rosso created a new type of blood that once injected granted him invulnerability and the ability to control blood.
No longer able to experiment on himself, Rosso continued his experiments by stealing blood samples from the Central City Police Department. Using the stolen blood samples of metahumans in the precincts morgue, Rosso was able to refine his abilities. His ongoing tampering had altered his genetic structure and gave him the power to change, generate, and alternate his own blood at an accelerated rate. Eventually, the police caught on to missing evidence and Barry Allen began investigating. As the Flash, he caught Rosso disposing of all his stolen blood samples.
After an intense battle that left both incapacitated for a time, Rosso prepped for their next battle. Utilizing his powers, Rosso transformed himself in the new rogue of Central City, Bloodwork! While this chilling villain caused damage within the pages of DC Comics, did you know the monstrous Bloodwork is now suiting up to terrorize the citizens on The CW’s Flash? As revealed during Comic-Con: International, Heroes alum Sendhil Ramamurthy is joining the sixth season in the recurring role of Dr. Ramsey Rosso, a/k/a Bloodwork.
A brilliant physician with a genius intellect, Rosso is the world’s leading expert on hematological oncology. Through an unexpected event, Rosso rekindles his friendship with his former colleague Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker). But when his desire to defy the laws of nature takes him down a dark path, Rosso is transformed from an old friend to a terrible villain that Team Flash will have to face.
Flash returns for season six on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at 8 PM on The CW.
