The Kickstarter campaign for the Tattered Weave project continues, as the team behind the virtual community inches ever closer to meeting their goal. The goal is $5,900 and runs through June 4, 2016. Scoop spoke with the project’s Operations Director, Diane Hazlett, about the project and where it’s going.

Scoop: Where did the idea behind Tattered Weave come from?
Diane Hazlett (DH): We’ve been writing and running RPGs for many years now, and the trend toward the post-apocalyptic made us wonder about the post-post-apocalyptic. What happens after the end of the world is over, and the survivors have recovered enough to start rebuilding society? From there, we came up with ideas for this reforming world and parsed it into a game with crafting, pets, avatars, collectibles, and lots of customization. I’ve been playing on virtual communities for many years, and the Tattered Weave project is what I believe to be the ideal combination of all my favorite aspects of those communities.

Scoop: Can you explain a little bit about how the game experience will work upon release?
DH: Users will begin the game as “students” of Hope University when they first join the site. Headmaster Nicholas encourages users to ally with a Kith, a magical creature who can be raised by collecting items, playing games, posting on the forums, and completing quests. As your Kith learns and grows, it can take on new forms – and will start to reveal secrets about what lies beyond the Threads that isolate Hope. After we hit public launch, we’ll start introducing the interactive part of the story, where users can decide the fate of the world with their actions. For example, the Explore feature: when your Kith warns you that it hears the sound of rustling leaves in one direction and haunting laughter in another, which way will you go?

Scoop: The Kickstarter is already off to a great start, but what are your long-term goals for Tattered Weave?
DH: Above all else, we want to foster a community that cares for each other and works together. The story and all aspects of the site are a way to build the sense of hope, motivation, and friendship. Now, that’s not to say that we don’t have goals for each aspect of the site, too – spoilers abound, so I’ll just say that we have some major, epic plans for the site features and the interactive story options.

Scoop: What are you personally most excited about? What’s your favorite thing in-game?
DH: I’m definitely excited for the mini games! I spent a lot of time designing them with Stephand I’m extremely pleased with the final results. I’ve already spent hours playing them myself with the excuse that I’m “testing” them!

Tattered Weave is a virtual community focused on the story of a world torn apart by the Unmaker. Players in the community will come together in order to bring the world back together while making friends with the mysterious creatures known as “Kith.”

The project features the talents of a number of webcomic artists, who have been working to create the characters and creatures of the world. Kickstarter rewards for pledging to the campaign include access to the beta period, exclusive in-game items, and opportunities to design something for the game with one of the artists.
