Quantcast
In the Limelight

Today definitely confirmed that my decision to take it as easy as possible yesterday was a sound one. Though I am still incredibly tired after another several hours spent at the show on the exhibition floor and in panel rooms, I can only imagine how much worse off I'd be without taking a bit of downtime.

Unlike the past couple of days, I made sure that I was there for the show floor's opening. This was so I could grab signing tickets for the Nickelodeon booth, which has been my favorite area of the show if I haven't made that abundantly clear yet. I was lucky enough to snag tickets for both the All That and Legends of the Hidden Temple cast signings. Both events were great, and the cast members were so gracious and patient with everyone. Everyone was down to take selfies, too, which was spectacular. I'm sure many people reading this wouldn't care about these shows, but as I grew up watching them I definitely geeked out pretty hard. At a show as big and busy as this, it was nice to be able to take some time to be just another fan for a while.

Today I also learned the importance of not underestimating how many other people like the same things that you do. I tried to get into a few panels but missed out on most of them because the line had already been capped. I did however stop in the Quick Draw panel, a game featuring a number of cartoonists who all had their sketches projected to the audience. The big surprise of the panel was when, mid-show, Sergio Aragones was presented with this year's Icon Award to a standing ovation. Best known for his MAD Magazine work and as the creator of Groo, he seemed totally humbled by the experience. Totally well-deserved.

Overall SDCC has been a blast, and I've learned a lot that I'll be able to roll forward into future con experiences. I hope I get the chance to come back!
